JBL Flip 5 Review & Sound Test!

 Okay so today I had the brand new JBL flip five let's check it out alright so let's check out the box here on the back it says it has 12 hours of playtime which is less than the JBL for head it is ipx7 waterproof which means you can submerge it up to 3 feet for about a half hour and it'll be perfectly fine and then it says right here you have JBL party Boost not JBL connect not JBL connect plus but JBL party boost.

Let's find out what's up with that so when you take it out of the box they had this little kind of plastic key foam container and I went with the red one this time so as you can see right off the bat it looks very very similar to the JBL flip 4 with some minor changes if I flip it this way we have the play/pause button if you press it once if you press it twice it skips forward plus/minus volume and right here is where the JBL connect button used to be an ALICE 2 JBL party boost and you can see it does have a different icon and then flip it once more this way oops let's do that right here you have a power button which is OneTouch on and off which I'm not the biggest fan of the Bluetooth connect button the power light indicator and right here which is a new upgrade which is a USB type-c take that Sony but getting to the build quality of

BUILD QUALITY

this I really really like the build quality of this we have this wire mesh that wraps around the entire body and then we have this very durable rubber that runs across the length of this speaker onto the sides and it feels like this thing can really take a beating and then as I flip it to the side we had the very very familiar radiators as you see on the flip and on the charge and then of course we have the very familiar lanyard that you seen on other flipped models but it looks like just the shoelace tied together but just taking a look at this you can see a couple things that aren't on here first of all like I mentioned before no JBL connects so what does that mean that means that all your previous JBL speakers will not connect to this if it has connectors connect plus the reason why JBL did that I'm not sure they're thinking about the future but what about all the old speakers that they added connect to you can't use this speaker and have other ones connect to it and have that nice stereo sound the only way you can get that stereo sound with this speaker is to have multiple JBL flip fives because nothing else has that feature this is the first one which I'm a little confused about also the positive on this is they finally went with USB type-c as opposed to the micro USB charger as you see on every other JBL portable speaker also you're gonna notice it doesn't have a flap to expose this USB type-c like the flip forehead and under that flap on the floor you would see a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack which this does not have so once again JBL is kind of going backwards by saying 3.5 millimeter jack is important USB type-c is important which it is and doing the party boost instead of the kinect i'm not sure what they were thinking with this this thing better sound great to kind of make up for what it's lacking oh also it doesn't have voice assistant so if you do have this connected to your phone and you're streaming music and you get a telephone call you can't just push the button and take a call through this it doesn't have a microphone doesn't have voice assistant so once again they omitted a very cool feature that you had on the flip 4 and I'm just I'm a little confused at what they were doing with this speaker I know I keep saying it but it kind of blows my mind that they're going backwards with features and we're supposed to be moving forward so I'll do a sound test and a waterproof test with the speaker in just a few minutes but in this fancy cardboard box here we have some wordage some quick our guide here some boring stuff here's our USB type-c to charge it so I just want to make sure it has enough juice to do the sound test and of course when you plug it in you have that LED glow that shows you that it is charging but according to the JBL website it says it takes two and a half hours to charge this fully that flip four I believe it was three and a half hours you do get 12 hours of playtime out of this that's about average usually you see about 10 to 12 hours of playtime with these small portable speakers and one last thing I want to mention before the sound test is JBL is still using USB 4.2 as opposed to USB 5.0 I don't know alright so how does

SOUND TEST

this sound JBL flip 4 sounded fantastic so I want to see if this even compares I'm gonna start this out at 50% volume and let's see what kind of quality we're talking about and I understand that you're not gonna get the full effect through the microphone here but this is just for my purposes if you guys can get anything out of it that's great so I'm gonna record it but I'm also gonna put a time at the bottom that if you don't want to see the sound test go ahead and just skip through that time all right let's start at 50% power and bought right there so let's check it out. what do you guys think of my tan line it's pretty bad alright let's go to 100 that's about a quarter right there okay okay so my first impressions are the bass sounds absolutely fantastic for such a small speaker we got these little radiators on the side just like previous flip models and these things really kickout you can see them vibrate as the bass is kicking out but one thing a note they went with a single driver in this does it make any difference from the flip four I can't hear it it sounds absolutely fantastic the low sound great every Bluetooth speaker I've ever reviewed has great mids the highs at high volume tend to sound a little tinny to me I'm not saying that as bad just sounds a little bit tinny at the max volume I did just review a Sony XV 2 which is a little bit bigger of a speaker than this it's more in the charge category and this JBL flip 5 actually does sound better than that speaker alright and that brings me to

WATER TEST 

the water test JBL says this is ipx7 which means i could submerge this underwater up to 3 feet and it should still be able to work perfectly so let's try that now so I'm just going to drop it in okay it does float that's a positive and let's give it a go let's run it back up man stuff

happening Jesus okay it's cut it's cutting in and out under the water I wonder if it's because of the signal to the blue -that's weird though but obviously the base is so much it starts splattering everywhere got everywhere Wow as soon as I put the driver forward it splatters everywhere so I'm gonna try to hold it down okay that was interesting so I think it was just losing Bluetooth signals but it was like right next to it so it was cutting out I'm not sure if you guys pick that up or not I'll find out when I edit this video but it was definitely kicking out as I put it in the water but it still seems like it's fine so let me give it another yeah got water everywhere but let's go to another go here okay but you guys notice the USB type-c is wide open there's nothing covering it yet it can still go in the water and be perfectly okay the micro USB not waterproof had to have a little flap thing a little rubber flap on the slip floor and they took that away because of the USB type-c can handle that type of water submersion but after this very very short test and only a couple inches of water I would say yeah this is waterproof maybe the metal had something to do with the Bluetooth signal and that's why it cut out but it seems to be perfectly fine alright so what's my final verdict

Verdicton the new JBL flip five is it worth buying a brand new hundred dollar speaker if the JBL for exists at a lower price I'm not really sure with the omission of JBL connect plus two JBL power boost without a 3.5 millimeter auxiliary jack without voice assistant and without the ability to take calls

 while you're streaming music it's just hard to recommend a Bluetooth speaker with so many feature omissions from the previous model USB type-c yes but is it worth the hundred dollar price tag I mean that's up to you for me I don't know I think I'd rather have all the features back and live with the micro USB I mean it's a tough call but if you absolutely have to have every single JBL speaker released obviously you're gonna pick this up I'm not saying it's a bad speaker it absolutely sounds fantastic it's probably one of the better sounding portable speakers that I own this thing is absolutely great sounding all right guys that's pretty much it for this video you know what I think of the JBL flip 5 what do you guys think leave me a comment below let me know if you guys pick this up already or if you're planning on picking it up but if you did enjoy this blog please give me that thumbs up please share and go.

Lenovo Thinkbook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid hands-on at CES 2024

 when you're talking about 2inone laptop you're talking about something like this which is lenovo's new Yoga 9i 2 in1 and it converts from a typical clam shell and if you fold back the screen.

Suddenly you have a table however at CES 2024 Lenovo is using two in one in a slightly different fashion for this the new thinkbook plus Gen 5 hybrid because as you can see right here we have a standard clamshell laptop but if I do this I can yank the display off and suddenly this thing turns into a standalone Android tablet while over here we have a laptop base that has everything you need to run Windows 11 now that's really cool but it gets better because if we grab an external monitor like this and plug this in suddenly we have two completely separate devices running two completely separate os's so we're literally talking about two devices in one to add some Synergy between these two different devices.

 Lenovo has also added some helpful apps and software like this hybrid folder which is how you'll transfer files and stuff between devices all you have to do is drag and drop something from the hybrid folder on the Android tablet and it'll magically show up in the hybrid folder over here and it transfers wirelessly so it's really really fast and the hybrid folder shows up as a separate drive in Windows so all your stuff is really really really easy to manage if we set the laptop up like this we can even use the Android tablet as a standalone wireless display so you get two displays now it's important to mention this external display does come separate so you have to buy that on your own however you can also use the tablet as a Wacom style tablet for drawing and sketching and all that using uh lenovo's freestyle app now unfortunately this is CES uh live demos never go well and we couldn't get the freestyle system working cuz the internet's just a little bit wonky over here but you can draw stuff down here and it'll show up on here not only it can be used as a separate wireless display but also as a drawing tablet now if we set it up back as a traditional laptop just by dropping the display on here it'll switch back into Windows mode and now it takes a couple seconds sometimes a couple drawbacks. 

I have noticed so far is that the travel depth on these Keys is a bit so you're not getting the most comfy typing experience but I think that's kind of okay given this thing's really wild design and then when we're talking about specs both devices even talking about specs both devices even though they are two devices in one have pretty solid specs especially the laptop version which comes with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor an integrated Intel Arc GPU up to 32 gigs of ddr5 RAM 1 TB of storage and has a 75w hour battery with a 100 W power adapter the other drawback to this sort of design is that that there aren't a ton of ports there's two Thunderbolt four ports across the entire device uh so you get one here on the right and then one here on the left and the tablet part itself doesn't actually have any ports on it at all meanwhile when it comes to the specs of just the tablet it's not quite as powerful but more than good enough for everyday use especially if you're using it just for browsing at home or on the couch we're talking about a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 plus gen one chip 12 gigs of RAM 256 gigs of storage with a 14in 2.8k OLED display and a pretty good color gamut at 100% DCI P3 so altogether lenovo's always been known to do something kind of wacky with its plus series but this is kind of the most compelling version of it all because you have your laptop and your Android tablet. 

You basically have your cake and you can eat it too now before we go I also want to talk really quickly about another new Ultra portable that Lenovo has in store for cs24 which is this the thinkbook 13x Gen 4 and as you can see it's it's a really nice slim Ultra Portal Device 13-in display and this one has as we saw from last year that magic Bay so you can have accessories and you can just attach them magnetically this one happens to be the studio camera so you get a nice 4k camera plus two extra speakers now the cool thing is that Lenovo is making some interesting alternate versions of the thinkbook 13x Gen 4 and here's an example this is the seashell version now it doesn't have that magic Bay expandability but what it does have is what lenovo's call the world's first stainless magnesium alloy chassis so obviously it has a different paint job but it's actually even lighter and unlike some previous magnesium based systems it's going to be more resistant to corrosion so you're going to get that super lightness and some extra durability and then finally over here we have the S concept versions of the think po 13x Gen 4 and as you can see it's using lenovo's e in prism Tech on the lid of the laptop if you can see I can flip it around like that and this allows you pretty much infinite color customization options so obviously it's really cool because this is color ink which is something we've been waiting for for a long time but it also gives you just so many options on how to personalize and customize the look of your system and it's super easy and because it's ink it shouldn't have too much of an impact on overall battery life okay so that's just a really quick look at some of the most interesting laptops.
